Trends come and go, but the obsession with looking young is forever. In aesthetics, skinboosters and Rejuran are two highly sought-after treatments at the centre of this anti-ageing craze. Not only do they promise to rejuvenate the skin and reverse signs of ageing, but they are also administered in the same manner. Thus, it’s easy to get confused between the two.

In this article, I will compare Skinboosters and Rejuran, and you’ll see that while both tackle skin ageing, they differ significantly in their approach

Introduction to Skinboosters

Skinboosters are filler treatments that work on hydrating the skin from within. They contain hyaluronic acid, a natural component of our skin that can draw water up to 1000 times its weight. Hyaluronic acid is a common ingredient in moisturisers and serums due to its hydrating abilities. As we all know, hydration is crucial for healthy and youthful-looking skin. Without adequate skin hydration, we get dehydrated skin, which is flaky and wrinkly and can make us look old.

How does it work?

By plumping hyaluronic acid into our skin, we increase the moisture we get, resulting in radiant and healthier-looking skin. Besides hydration, hyaluronic acid also carries wound healing properties and is thus fantastic on shallow acne scars. On top of that, Skinboosters have been found to stimulate the formulation of elastin fibres and collagen. So by replacing lost collagen and elastin fibres from ageing, we now get much firmer and thicker skin.

How are Skinboosters administered?

Introduction to Rejuran

Rejuran is an anti-ageing treatment that works on the principle of increasing DNA synthesis. Its main ingredient, Polynucleotide (PN), is a DNA fragment used in medical treatments to heal damaged skin and skin ulcers and treat hair loss. The polynucleotides in Rejuran are extracted from salmon DNA, which first undergoes a rigorous and sterile purification process to remove any substances that can trigger immune responses in the body. They are then broken up into polydeoxyribonucleotides (PDRN), which are key in Rejuran’s anti-ageing effect.

How does it work?

When introduced to the skin, PDRN brings about a few effects:

Increase vascular endothelial growth factor, a substance that stimulates the formation of new blood vessels. Blood vessels aid in wound healing and skin repair.

step 2

Reduce inflammation in the body by increasing our body’s natural antioxidant reserves. We generally want to avoid inflammation as inflammation generates free radicals that damage our cell DNA, collagen, proteins and cell membrane.

step 3

Increase fibroblasts, which stimulate collagen production in our skin. Collagen plays a significant role in fighting ageing.

step 4

Generate nucleotides which form new DNA. This new DNA stimulates cell growth and leads to faster tissue regeneration.

Which is for me?

As skin boosters work primarily on hydrating the skin, it is recommended for individuals facing ageing skin due to dry skin and want to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Rejuran, on the other hand, is focused on skin regeneration and repair. Hence, it might be better for older individuals with severely damaged and aged skin that mere hydration cannot fix. Individuals with acne scarring may benefit better from Rejuran as well. Rejuran’s skin repair and anti-inflammatory properties can improve skin healing, smoothen skin, and reduce the appearance of acne scars.
