What is TCA Cross?

TCA Cross is the chemical reconstruction of skin scars using trichloroacetic acid. It is used on patients to treat atrophic scars and is particularly effective on ice-pick and pitted acne scars. Depending on the patient’s acne scars condition, combination treatments such as laser resurfacing and subcision may be required in the process. How does it work?
 
 

TCA Cross kills the skin cells. These dead cells will peel off, and the body will replace them with new tissue. This triggers dermal collagen remodelling, which will take a few months to complete. This is great for the skin as it allows it to gradually improve cumulatively over a few months.

How long is the TCA CROSS?
 

The entire treatment will take approximately 10~15 minutes depending on the treated area.

 
is the TCA CROSS painful?
 

Most patients can tolerate the treatment without much discomfort. Some of them may feel a bit of stinging sensation.  

 
How many treatments are required?
 

Depending on individual, scar location, scar depth and skin type, the number of treatments can range from 2~4 sessions spaced about 1 month apart. Combination treatments with fractional laser resurfacing and subcision may be required in more severe cases.  

 
Is there any downtime?
 

The chemical frosting will remain for up to 12 hours, and the surrounding skin will appear red and swollen for up to 24~48 hours.  Scab will form and eventually fall off in 3~7 days. It is important not to pick at the scab to allow healing and prevent further scarring.
