• What is a hyaluronic acid filler or dermal filler in Singapore?

Hyaluronic acid filler injections are widely used in aesthetic medicine to replace volume loss in the face, especially in the cheek, enhance features on the face, correct face asymmetry and restore youthfulness. The collagen-stimulating effect of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers can be used to improve skin hydration and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This is a preferred procedure for many patients who are not keen to go through invasive treatments, surgical procedures and downtime.

  • How are dermal fillers in Singapore used?

    • Add volume to the cheeks
    • Reduce the appearance of the tear trough, eyebags and dark eye circles
    • Soften laugh lines and marionette lines
    • Restore a sunken temple and forehead
    • Smoothen facial lines and wrinkles
    • Achieve a higher nose bridge and increase lip volume
    • Enhance chin and jawline definition
    • Improve skin hydration, pores and dull skin
  • What happens during a consultation?

During a consultation, I will assess your condition and understand your needs and concerns before recommending the best treatment options to you. I will address your areas of concern, explain the procedures, potential risks, downtime and customise a complete treatment plan according to your condition, working schedule and budget. Before and after treatment photos are taken for documentation of treatment progress.

As a medical director in Singapore, I believe that every precaution must be taken before I commence with any sort of filler treatment. I also believe that there no one-size-fits-all treatment option for a patient; every patient is different and time and effort must be spent examining the case so that the treatment protocol I decide on is the best one for you.

  • What is done during treatment for dermal fillers in Singapore?

Topical numbing cream will be applied to the treatment areas prior to the filler injection to minimise discomfort. An appropriate amount of approved fillers are injected into the skin and subcutaneous tissues to achieve desired results. The safe technique, appropriate fillers, the optimal amount of fillers and precise injection area for fillers are the key points for a good clinical outcome. The techniques I use for a nose fillers treatment will be different from what I use in other forms of treatment.

The whole process for fillers injections takes 10~20 minutes and it is well-tolerated by patients.

  • Is there downtime for face fillers in Singapore?

To ensure the good safety practices for face fillers, I only use HSA approved fillers in MY Medical Aesthetics. By using approved fillers that go through the relevant safety protocols, I largely minimise the risk of any unforeseen side effects that might occur.

Nose fillers, facial fillers or other sites injected with hyaluronic acid fillers may lead to injection-related side effects, such as redness, bruising, slight swelling or itching. This is considered to be expected and will heal naturally over 7-14 days.

  • Is there a risk of side effects when doing dermal fillers?

In my experience, severe side effects are rare when doing dermal fillers. Most patients will simply have some light bruising and swelling which will disappear after a while. However, there is a statistically low chance of more severe side effects occurring, such as skin necrosis.

Skin necrosis can happen if an ulcer forms underneath the skin due to the insertion of the hyaluronic acid. Also, if there is a major disruption of blood flow due to the filler, there is a chance that skin necrosis might happen. A few years back in Singapore, there was also a case of blindness due to unforeseen complications that arose after a nose fillers procedure.

This risk can be further amplified if you go to an unlicensed spa or beauty salon for fillers treatment. Although the procedures are cheaper, it is unlikely that the brand of fillers being used is HSA approved, leading to a greater risk of infection and unforeseen side effects.

  • How long can dermal fillers last in Singapore?

Depending on the filler brand, product viscosity of the filler, treatment areas of the skin and pre-treatment condition, the longevity of fillers varies according to the individual and their lifestyle. Generally, the results can last from 9 to 24 months. Dermal fillers are not permanent and will be broken down by our body’s immune system over time. Follow up treatment may be required to maintain the good results.

  • Fillers vs. Thread lifts - is one better than the other?

Like everything else in aesthetic medicine, the answer is really: it depends.

Thread lifts are very good for certain things like raising the nose bridge to make it sharper and also to improve nasal tip projection. However, the final effect is largely dependent on the doctor’s technique and skill, and also how the treatment is tailored for the individual. Thread lifts are more prone to problems such as misalignment, where soft threads shift around in an unintended fashion. Extrusion is also possible due to the pressure the threads inflict on the underlying skin.

Fillers, on the other hand, have several advantages over thread lifts. Fillers, being an injectable, can only add volume to the face and it can’t reduce any facial tissue, but it is very good for balancing out your entire face in order to make it more proportionate. Ultimately, only an aesthetic doctor with experience can recommend the best treatment regime for you and your face.

Fillers Singapore - How MY Medical does them

What are the signs of ageing and how dermal fillers can help to reverse it?

As we age, our skin, fats, muscles and bones go through different rates of degenerative change. On the face, ageing causes saggy jowls, naso-labial folds, wrinkles, eyebags, retruded chin, flat cheeks and sunken temples. These common complaints are structural changes that are inevitable with ageing in the human face.

Dermal fillers containing hyaluronic acid can help to stimulate collagen formation in the injection site. These filler injections will help improve skin hydration and elasticity.

Fillers can be used on many different parts of the face. Fillers for the nose are highly requested as a sharp nose bridge and defined nose tip are highly desired aspects of beauty.

Most commonly, I prescribe lip filler, nose filler and fillers for the cheek for my patients.
