What causes skin pigmentation?

Skin pigmentation is caused by overproduction of melanin in the skin which may appear as age spots, sun spots, freckles and melasma. Poor lifestyle such as prolonged sun exposure, hormonal changes and aging are the main factors that contribute to skin pigmentation.

With Discovery Pico Laser+ having the highest peak power of 1.8GW in the market, you can achieve clearer complexion, refine pores, brighter skin with lesser downtime!

It is also advised to avoid sun exposure and heat. Depending on the condition of the skin, home care products, oral medications and supplements may be needed for better skin.

  • How does PICOSECOND PLUS LASER lift work?

The Pico Laser Plus machine works in ultrashort picosecond pulses which is 100x shorter compared to a Q-Switched Laser. It is able to fragment the pigments into thin “dust”.

The Photoaccoustic effect of Discovery Pico fragments the tattoo’s ink in very small particles, which subsequently will be eliminated by the body’s immune system.

Discovery PICO Plus has triple wavelengths at 532 nm, 694nm and 1064 nm. It can produce pico as well as nano-second pulses, targeting different coloured inks effectively. Discovery PICO Plus also includes a 694 nm Ruby laser, which just means even notoriously stubborn tattoo ink colours can be safely treated.

  • Is the treatment painful?

Based on individual’s pain tolerance and location of the pigmented lesion, most people are able to tolerate the lasers sessions without much discomfort. Patients will feel the pulses as quick tingling sensations, like very tiny rubber bands snapped against the skin. Cold air or numbing cream will be provided if necessary.

  • How many treatments are required?

Depending on the patient condition, the number of treatments can range from 4 – 10 sessions.

  • What are the common side effects?

Depending on the settings, patient may experience slight redness which will go away within a few hours. For certain patients, some greying/browning/darkening of the existing pigmentation may be expected before it fades off.

  • Is there any downtime?

The face may look flushed after the laser treatment for a few hours. You may resume normal activities post treatment, but it is advisable to minimise sun exposure for a week and apply sunblock daily on the treated area. As for tattoo removal, the treated area will appear slightly swollen and it will go away in a few days.

This second generation of picosecond lasers is the most innovative medical laser available in the market today. It addresses skin problems of various pigmented lesions, acne scars, birthmarks and unwanted tattoos, making the skin look brighter and smoother.

Tattoo Removal

  • The first picosecond laser to include a Ruby 694nm wavelength for removal of notoriously hard to treat light blue and green pigments.
  • True lasers rather than alternative dye converter options.
  • Effectively extends the range of treatable colours.

Discovery Pico vs other Picosecond lasers in the market

There are 3 main Picosecond lasers available in Singapore. The discovery Pico, PicoSure, and PicoWay.

Some clinics may offer other lasers as a “Pico Laser” – an example being the Fotona Starwalker. While they may work to varying extents, they are not true picosecond lasers, and are unable to generate the speed as a genuine pico laser. The Discovery Pico+, being a second-generation pico laser, generates the highest peak power and is the most powerful triple wavelength pico laser in the world. This ensures that results are faster, and more effective with fewer sessions.
